If I had to list my reasons in order of priority,
saving money would definitely be at the top. But there is so much more.
My baby's comfort is so important to me, and
cloth diapers just seemed so much better than scratchy paper and chemicals.
It has always seemed so much healthier as well. My children suffered far fewer diaper rashes than babies we knew in disposables.
I was never comfortable with the amount of trash generated by disposables. I'm no tree hugging hippie, but I still like to conserve resources, my own and the planet's.
Finally, and call me crazy, but in addition to the fact that
cloth diapers save money, it is so much easier too!
Did she say it's easier? Yes, I did!
Have you taken three children out shopping in a state where they need to be in car seats to the age of 8? No diapers to shop for or cart home. No lugging. No looking for 3 pairs of minature socks and strapping 3 kids into the car to fight traffic and at the store, no explaining for the 36th time why your son can't have the toy everyone else has.
Uh oh, almost out of diapers? Just start a load of laundry. Done.
We use plain ol'
prefold diapers fastened with snappi, with a pull on Bummi or a wool soaker which I have lots of fun knitting myself.
I am truly glad that I decided on cloth. It has made such a difference and done so much to contribute to the joy of mothering and reduce the stress involved.
