"I grew up surrounded by disposable diapers"
If you have ever been asked the question, "You Really Use Those Cloth Diapers?",then you can understand how this momma, who grew up surrounded by disposable diapers in her mom's home daycare, didn't even realize people still used cloth.

I grew up surrounded by disposable diapers. My mom did home daycare, and later worked in a daycare (where I helped out after school). On a subconcious level, I knew that there were cloth diapers, but I don't think it ever really sunk in that people REALLY used those things!
While pregnant, I learned about cloth diapers and found out that people really did still use cloth. And that it wasn't all pins, vinyl pants (although, I do use the vinyl pants on occasion), a stinky house, poop everywhere, etc!
I was lucky enough to have a local boutique open that sold a wide variety of cloth diapers. I went in and the owner taught me all about the different kinds of cloth diapers available. I came home with 6 preemie prefolds, a Bummis diaper cover, and more enthusiasm than I knew what to do with.
I devoured each site teaching me about the health benefits of cloth, and about the increased risk of asthma from disposables (I've since figured out that the fragrance and chemicals in 'sposies are a trigger for my own attacks). Once my daughter was here (4 weeks early) I was devastated. None of her cloth diapers fit her skinny little thighs! I reluctantly use disposables for 5 weeks waiting for her to grow into her cloth. When she finally fit into them I eagerly put her in a prefold and cover. I loved how cute she looked in her diapers. Washing them was surprisingly easy, and my husband was both shocked and thrilled with how clean they really did get. My daughter is now 13 months old. And we're still using cloth. We recently switched to disposables for a short time while she had a tummy bug. That week reminded my family why we will always be a cloth diapering family!
In our house cloth is easier (why run to the store for diapers when you can just go down to the dryer???), it's cheaper (always a good thing!), better for mom and baby (no asthma attacks, icky gel on the bum, or rashes), and a lot more fun!
Whenever people find out I use cloth I usually get a weird look and a comment along the lines of "You Really Use Those Cloth Diapers?" My honest response is "How could you NOT use them? They're great!"
When asked if "You Really Use Those Cloth Diapers?" you can respond with assurance, just like many cloth diapering moms who have sent in their testimonials as cloth diapering articles
