How Do I Wash and Care for bumGenius! One-Size Cloth Diapers?
 The bumGenius! 3.0 One-Size Cloth Diaper is a single-use cloth diaper. This means, like all other pocket diapers, after it has been soiled, it needs to go through a complete wash and dry cycle before being used again. Fortunately, caring for your baby's bumGenius! diapers is as simple as using them.
Washing bumGenius! One-Size Cloth Diapers
The bumGenius! require a double wash with an extra rinse to both cleanse and remove any lingering detergent. Be careful to select detergents free of dyes, enzymes, perfumes, whiteners and brighteners to keep your pocket diaper from premature leaks, elastic failure and decreased absorption.
It is unnecessary to add baking soda and/or vinegar to your bumGenius! wash; these products could cause problems with your diapers. Always avoid fabric softeners or detergents with fabric softeners.
The manufacturer suggests the following washing routine:
- Wash once in cold water with no more than 1/4 cup of detergent.
- Wash once in warm or hot water with no more than 1/4 cup of detergent. They give an option to occasionally use 1/4 cup of bleach in this cycle. If you chose to do this, we recommend you do it minimally as bleach breaks down fibers in fabrics as it cleanses and disinfects.
- Add an extra rinse to remove all traces of detergent.
- Tumble dry on medium setting.
Do you think you have detergent build-up?
If your bumGenius! pocket diapers are repelling water, or have a strong pungent odor after baby wets in them, you may have detergent build-up. Alleviating a build-up of detergent requires approximately one tablespoon of dishwashing detergent (preferrably Liquid Dawn) in the washing machine. Rinse until the suds are all gone and then dry your bumGenius! in the dryer on medium heat.
Easily Store your Soiled bumGenius! between diaper loads.
 After a diaper change, but before placing the soiled bumGenius! 3.0 One-Size Cloth Diapers into a waterproof diaper tote, avoid messes by rolling the diaper up, just like you might a disposable diaper, and securing it closed by fastening the tabs around it.
Rinsing and storing your soiled cloth diapers in this way keeps messes contained nice and neat and ready for the diaper laundry when you get home.
