How Do Cloth Diapers Work on Outings?
Cloth diapers work essentially the same way disposable diapers do on outings - in fact, it isn't a far stretch to consider taking cloth diapers on vacations beyond your local community.
If your baby needs a diaper change, you simply find a sanitary place to change baby out of the wet or dirty cloth diaper and into a clean one. The difference between how you would handle an outing -v- a day where you'll be at home is deciding what style of cloth diapers you choose to bring along and how you handle the dirty diapers.
With disposables, you throw the dirty diapers into the trash; and subsequently, landfills. With cloth diapers, you must bring the wet or dirty diapers home to wash. The best way to do this is to bring two waterproof tote bags with you inside your diaper bag. In one small tote keep a stash of clean diapers to use when needed. The other small tote should be empty and can store all dirty diapers until you get home.
Certain cloth diapers are easier to handle when you’re on the go. All-in-ones (AIOs) diapers or pocket diapers make changes "on the go" quick and easy. There is no need for diaper covers or diaper pins/fasteners in the diaper bag when using AIOs. You simply pull off the wet diaper and pull up a clean one that is pre-assembled and ready to go. The wet diaper goes into your dirty diaper tote and is stowed back in the diaper bag until you have a chance to deal with it at home. It is really that simple!
So take the first step and ditch disposables for your outings around town. Then, when you feel more confident using cloth diapers outside of your home, consider taking your cloth diapers on your vacation the next time you head out of town! Your baby's skin and your budget will thank you. |
