Cloth Diaper Folding - Chinese Prefolds and Wrap-style Diaper Covers
Chinese Prefolds and wrap-style diaper covers make for an easy-to-use, economical cloth diapering system. Pre-fold. The name says it all. Prefolds are rectangular in shape, having already been pre-folded into multiple absorbent layers and sewn into panels.
Prefold diapers, combined with wrap-style diaper covers like Bummis Super Whisper Wraps or the Imse Vimse Organic Cotton Diaper Cover, do not require the fancy origami-like folds necessary with the large, single-layer, gauze flats/diapers you might have seen your mother or grandmother use.
Make cloth diapering easy for all your caregivers
Many parents express a concern that they not only want cloth diapering to be an easy experience for them, but for their child's caregivers as well. If you are the only diaper changer in the family, ease-of-use might not be as large a factor to you when determining your cloth diapering system, but most of the time this isn't the case.
Chinese Prefolds and wrap-style diaper covers closely mimic the style of disposable diapers, but with the added benefit of being soft. It doesn't take long for new cloth diapering parents to recognize the difference between the natural cotton of cloth diapers resting against their baby's skin, as opposed to the sticky plastic and questionable chemicals of a disposable diapering system.
The Easy Prefold Wrap fold gets its name because it is so ... EASY!
Though the Angel Fold with or without the snappi diaper fastener is a relatively easy fold, this fold is even easier.
1. Pull out one prefold diaper and one cloth diaper cover - in this case a Bummis Super Whisper Wrap. Lay your prefold diaper flat in front of you so that the serged ends are on top and bottom.

2. You can fold the prefold directly atop the wrap, but for the purpose of this demonstration, we've set the wrap aside. If, however, you are folding the prefold atop the wrap, remember that you place the prefold atop the wrap with the serged edges showing at the top and bottom (length-wise).
3. From one side, fold in the right (or left) non-serged edge of the prefold towards the middle of the prefold diaper (usually about 1/3 of the width).

4. Do the same thing in #3, but on the other side. Do you see that we are basically folding the diaper into a thick lengthwise panel? The easiest way to fold a prefold diaper lengthwise is to follow the "seam" of the stitching.
5. Then, place the tri-folded prefold atop the wrap and if necessary, fold under any of the additional prefold length to fit within the wrap and for additional absorption. If your baby is a boy, fold the additional length under in front. If your baby is a girl, fold the additional length under in back.
You can fold your cloth diapers and wraps ahead of time to store for a quick grab at the diaper changing table, diaper bag, or...

6. Lay baby atop the prefold diaper so that the top serged edge is right at the baby's waistline in the back and bring the prefold diaper and cover up between baby's legs.

7. Finally, wrap the tabs found on the diaper cover's back left and right "wings" around the baby to the front panel and secure.

Though the Easy Prefold Wrap fold is quite possibly the simplest fold available, we have others you might want to try in our Cloth Diapering "How To's" below.
